Honestly I don't blame them. Odyssey itself does not make it clear that one choice is canon and the other is narratively worthless. Imagine playing Odyssey for 60-100 hours, liking the game and Alexios, and then finding out that actually you should have played as Kassandra instead. I would have felt misled as well lol.
